Modern aircrafts can perform countless maneuvers. Therefore, the aim of the present essay is to unfold the possible operations which could be done with a plane.
The first maneuvers in history were performed to gain a positional advantage over the opponent, they could be offensive or defensive; nowadays they are called basic fighter maneuvers. However, over the years pilots have developed new ones, this time with a different goal: entertainment; they are known as aerobatic figures.
One of the most famous maneuvers is the loop, in which the pilot draws a vertical circle by using a positive pitching moment until the figure is completed.
Another one is the tailslide. Firstly, the aircraft flies straight up at full power, until it loses the momentum. Secondly, the aircraft falls backwards. Finally, when the nose reaches a vertical down position, the pilot performs a loop to recover the flight.
Most maneuvers are quite enjoyable, as they look so natural and harmonious, aircrafts look just like ballet dancers in perfect choreography. They can only be carried out by elite pilots, what makes it even more special and unique. If you ever assist such a spectacle, just sit and appreciate what you are witnessing.
