Currently, we have the opportunity to see fighters doing astonishing maneuvers at high speeds. However, these amazing pilots have had to learn how to do basic maneuvers, as without them, they wouldn’t be able to carry out the more complex ones. An example of basic maneuver could be the Split S.
Pilots learn these maneuvers in order to use it during a fight to escape from the combat. During the procedure, the aircraft is turned upside down and then the pilot executes a half down loop. These maneuvers are a bit risky and require the pilot to have a high knowledge and comprehension about the plane, because its a descent maneuver and you could crash while you are doing the half looping. During Split S, mainly two out three axes of the plane intervene which are pitch yaw. The pilot develops a high level of spatial vision and they must have knowledge about meteorology and many aspects of training aviation. In addition, the pilots who perform these stunts must be both physically and physiologically very well prepared due to the physical wear and tear they suffer.
Modern aircraft are increasingly analog and automatic, making these maneuvers safer and easier for the pilot to perform. The astonishing world of aviation is continuos development and will never stop amaze us.
