Nowadays radio communications play an important role in missions, especially in air missions.It goes without saying that if radio communications were not effective, the aircraft and its crew would be in serious risk.
First and foremost, it is necessary to take into account that radio connection is sometimes weak. On the one hand, to alleviate that deficiency, the phonetic alphabet was created, in order to avoid misunderstandings. For instance, it uses the word PAPA to express the letter P. You might consider that this is unnecessary, but it has a lot of sense. If we use PAPA for the letter P, that letter won’t be misunderstood as a C or E.
On the other hand, prowords allow crew members to communicate in a faster and more efficient way. Some examples of prowords are “over” which means that you have finished the message and that you are waiting a response. Moreover, some prowords are intentionally longer so that they can not be misunderstood through a weak radio connection.
To conclude this essay, I would say that radio communications are a paramount part in every mission. Not only they save lives, but also they assure in a certain way the mission’s success.
