The Pilatus PC 21 is a training aircraft designed to instruct future pilots in advanced aviation techniques. This plane is the one that will arrive at this academy to replace Casa C101.
The main characteristic is that the Pilatus has a very modern flight system that allows pilots to adapt to modern aircraft technologies when arriving at an operational unit, making easy the conversion process. This change of aircraft means that students are not instructed in a jet, as has been for 40 years, because the Pilatus is a turboprop aircraft. But I really think that it is not so bad, because this does not make it inferior on the way it can cover the capabilities of the C101 such as acrobatics, and also improve them with modern avionic systems.
Undoubtedly, it is a great plane that will be very useful in the training of the future pilots for the Spanish air force, and that will make these pilots better prepared and ready to adapt to future weapons systems.
