Nowadays, the successful of lots of missions falls on
the extremely rapid maneuvers that modern aircrafts are capable to do. These
modern machines can make lots of movements not only incredibly fast, but also they
are beautiful to see.
The key of the speed of that movements falls on the
three axes those planes have. Vertical axis, longitudinal axis and lateral
axis, which control yaw, roll and pitch, respectively.
The most impressive maneuvers that can be seen in
Spain are carried out by the Eagle Patrol, for example, the braid it’s the name
of one of the most awesome maneuvers they make. It’s based on, from the 7
planes of the patrol, five of them shaping arrowhead while behind them, the
other two are interleaving and crossing each other in the same way as a braid
would be done, climbing up and descending repeatedly, hence the name. And in
case lower speed is needed to make the different maneuvers involved, flaps
would help to create the enough sustenance.
And this is just one of all maneuvers they perform in
a show, so imagine the amount of practice it takes to dominate these stunts.
