WRITING 4 RUBÉN CUENCA MARTÍNEZ

Maneuverability is one of the most important aspects to consider by aircraft designers. It is key in dogfights, which has led to modern fighter planes being able to perform incredible maneuvers that would seem impossible to perform some decades ago.

Modern aircrafts, such as the Russian SU-27, are designed so that they can move quicker and change directions at slower speeds, leading to the plane needing less time and space to perform any maneuver.

This plane is broadly known for being greatly designed for performing the astonishing cobra maneuver. This maneuver involves a sudden change in pitch, until the plane reaches a fully vertical position regarding the direction it is moving, quickly slowing it down, for then coming back to its horizontal position.

Such maneuver could be used when involved in a dogfight to suddenly slow down and get behind another plane that was after them, avoiding getting locked on and shot down. This maneuver does not involve a change in yaw or roll, notwithstanding it is considered an extremely difficult movement to perform.

In conclusion, high maneuverability capabilities are crucial because, as during a dogfight, we can turn the tables through risky maneuvers like the cobra maneuver.
