In the world of the air forces, the use of communications is very important, because without them, missions couldn’t be done properly.
In the use of these communications, especially by radio, it is used the “prowords”. Some examples are: “wilco” which is used to say that an order has been received and it will be fulfilled; “roger” which means that a message has been received; “over” to end the conversation…
The use of the NATO alphabet is also very important, because if we only say one letter for a certain message, it could be misunderstood, and it may create doubts. On the other hand, if we use its equivalent in the NATO alphabet, there wouldn’t be any doubts. For example, in order to say the letter “C” we say “CHARLIE”, because by a radio, is easier to understand “Charlie” than just “C”.
In a mission, encrypted messages are also used, that is, using words that are equivalent to others, or using certain codes that prevent the enemy from knowing what we are talking about.
In summary, communications are widely used in the air forces, especially the radio, because they are necessary for create a comunication between the pilot and the tower.
