WRITING 5 JUAN SEBASTIÁN ENCINALES VEGA

From the beginning of their training, pilots are obliged to learn to speak English language. Specifically, civil pilots must have a C1 level of English language to be able to start their training, and in the case of the military pilots, they only must pass some English exams, with a medium level.

This is because, even though during their training pilots usually talk in their own language, when they become professionals, they must speak English for radio communications wherever they go.
There are a list of words used by pilots in this radio communications, words which have specific meanings that allows pilots to tell something to other pilots or to the control centre just with a single word. These words are called by pilots as “common prowords”.

Some of the most famous prowords used by pilots in their radio communications are “Say again” which means that the message was not received correctly and tells the transmitter to say it again, “Affirmative” which basically means yes, “Negative” that means no, “Stand by” which means that pilot is waiting for more instructions, or “Go ahead” which means that you can start telling your message. Another common prowords are “Wilco”, “Roger”, “Acknowledge”, “Over”, etc.
