The airplanes fly long distances and most of the miles they run are above the sea. Moreover there are many parameters which can´t be controlled by the crew in the cockpit. Here is when radio communications are such important.
On the one hand, the pilots need to know how are the conditions to take-off and land. Things like the weather can change the way to do a maneuver in these cases. When the aircrafts are close to the track to land, they ask for information to the control tower to be prepared what they are going to find near the floor.
On the other hand, the more time they spend flying, the more reports will be from the crew to the tower. It is said planes are requiring data of the environment. We must know that they are alone in the sky, and if any strange happens, nervous could dominate the pilot´s minds. In order to avoid this situation, air controllers guide the crew and tell them if they have to pitch. Pilots have to deal with the directions yawing and are they are joined by the tower in the pitch maneuvers.
Finally, communications are quite important in aircrafts.
