Modern aircrafts have many improvements compared with their antecessors and one of the most important ones is the addition of new technologies, such as the radio.
After the imposition of English as the official language used in aviation, pilots all over the world were able to communicate in a much easier way. This made possible the creation of a certain specific vocabulary for pilots and people who help them, with the aim of reducing the time they spend talking to the minimum. Radio communications allow professionals to communicate in a much simple and faster way, sharing information such as their position or their desire to land or take off. They have had such an impact that they have even created their own expressions, such as ‘over’, which means finished message, or ‘wilco’, which means to comply with the previous message. As well as short phrases such as ‘say again’, and certain words: yaw, pitch and roll, that describe the movement of the aircraft.
Radio communications have had a huge impact in the progress of aviation, and I am sure they will continue its development towards a more specific and efficient way of communication.
