Throughout the years, humankind has been looking for ways of transmitting information concisely. This is the most important when that information might even save your life. That is why it is vital for aircraft pilots to communicate through radio without any misunderstanding.
Whether we are talking about a transport pilot in an airline company or a fighter pilot in the army, and their mates on the ground, they all need to be crystal clear when transmitting any information, as well as fast. Aircraft pilots are submitted to a constant risk of having an accident. Thus, any risks must be communicated as soon as possible to ground. That is even the first step when encountering a flight emergency, so that everyone can work up their way to solve the emergency.
For that purpose, a special terminology was created so that they could express more with less. Words like “wilco”, “roger” or “over” stand up for whole meaningful sentences, on top of a radiophonic alphabet in which any letter is represented by a single word, so that the letter A is represented by “ALPHA”.
In conclusion, communications are important in aircrafts because they are the first step for avoiding a fatal accident.
